What is a Lumina?

Lumina are powerful passive abilities in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 that are unlocked by equipping and using specific Pictos in combat. Staggering Attack will grant you a Lumina with the effect "50% increased Break damage on Base Attack."

Once a Lumina is fully mastered through repeated use of its corresponding Picto (Winning 4 battles with Pictos equipped), it can be equipped independently by any character, without needing to equip that Picto again—allowing for deep build customization and synergy.

Characters earn Lumina Points through battle, which are required to activate mastered Luminas. Building a well-rounded Lumina loadout is essential for high-level encounters and late-game optimization.

Attributes

When a Picto is equipped, it grants immediate attribute bonuses to the character. These bonuses can include increases to Health, Defense, Speed, Critical Rate, and other stats. It's important to note that these attribute enhancements are only active while the Picto is equipped. Once the Picto's Lumina is mastered and equipped separately, the attribute bonuses do not carry over—only the passive effect is retained.

Strategically selecting Pictos based on the attribute bonuses they provide can significantly enhance a character's performance in combat. For instance, equipping a Picto that boosts Health can increase a character's survivability, while one that enhances Critical Rate can improve damage output.

Staggering Attack provides the following attributes:

  • Speed
  • Critical Rate

Staggering Attack Description

Staggering Attack is a Picto in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. In Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Pictos are equippable items that provide characters with passive bonuses and attribute enhancements. Each Picto offers unique effects that influence various aspects of combat, including healing, damage output, action economy, and more.

Each character can equip up to three Pictos at a time. However, it's important to note the following limitations:

  • Duplicate Pictos cannot be equipped by the same character.
  • Pictos also cannot be equipped by multiple characters simultaneously.

As characters participate in battles with a Picto equipped, they make progress toward unlocking the Picto's associated Lumina — a passive ability that becomes available once mastered.

The progression toward mastering a Lumina is visually indicated by the Picto's icon status:

  • Partially filled icon: Progressing toward mastery.
  • Fully filled icon: Lumina has been mastered and can be equipped independently by any character using Lumina Points.

Once mastered, a Lumina can be slotted without requiring the Picto to be equipped, giving players more flexibility in customizing their builds across the entire party.

Pictos can be obtained by solving environmental puzzles, defeating specific enemies, exploring hidden areas, or purchasing from Gestural Merchants found across the world.
