Here is a detailed guide on how to craft a build with one of the…
Best Iceborne Longsword
It’s been a while since I picked up the Longsword in Iceborne. It is partly because I am enjoying stunning the monster with the hammer since my first take on the Master Rank!
Safi’jiiva Longsword is definitely the best right now as you have the ability to customize the weapons to your liking. We will also cover other Longsword in Iceborne that were dominating the meta before the arrival of the Red Dragon

Here is a detailed guide on how to craft a build with one of the…
The simplistic design is the best design.
The Longsword makes from Shara Ishvalda. If you still prefer the Non-elemental Boost that dominates the Monster Hunter World, this can be your go-to weapon.
Radiant Flow comes with 924 Damage and 0% Affinity, with 450 Dragon as Hidden Element, you can slot in an Elementless Jewel and call it a day.
Radiant Flow’s material
PROS | CONS |
– Can be crafted as soon as you reach end game – Sync with Non-Elemental Boost – Comfy build – Two Level 1 Jewel Slot | – Can easily be obsolete – Can be boring after a while |
Another Raw Damage Longsword for your pick. This starts off with 480 Blast Damage – which sits among the highest in the weapon tree. The Base Damage is 924 and -20% Affinity.
Magdaros Volcan Sword is suitable for any monster that is not weak to Poison or you want a little spark in your hunt with those explosions. This requires you to be more accurate in your gameplay as well.
Magdaros Volcan Sword’s material
PROS | CONS |
– Another comfy Longsword – Level 2 Jewel Slot – High Damage | – Minus Affinity – Low Sharpness |
This is the current best Poison Great Sword before the Safi’jiiva Siege. However, you don’t get all of the material until MR 70 – which is a shame. This requires you to hunt a subspecies of the Rathian – the Gold Rathian.
In compensation for the hardship, this provides you with 957 Damage and 420 Poison and top it off with 10% Affinity and a huge amount of White Sharpness.
Wyvern Blade “Luna”‘s material
PROS | CONS |
– High Base Damage – High Poison Damage – Best for Comfy Build | – Hard to craft – Level 1 Jewel Slot |
Although Yian Garuga looks like it may provide a good Poison Longsword, the Daito Crow and the upgrade version Daito Wolf only give you 891 Base Damage and 210 Poison. The only upside is 25% Affinity, which is not much compared to the huge amount of Critical/ Affinity jewel in Iceborne. So it mostly used for its design only.
So you completed the Siege for the first time, now realize that you can pick…
The very first siege of Iceborne has arrived! Facing the mature version of Xeno’jiiva will…
The Safi’jiiva will comes to PC on … Which is a Siege that currently dominates the meta of Monster Hunter World Iceborne thanks to it’s a strong focus on elemental damage and unique Awakening Skill System.
Check out the below guide to understand how the Seige goes on and a quick look at the Awakening System
As all other melee weapons, Longsword got nine variant to the Below is the variant of the Safi’jiiva Longsword
VARIANT | DAMAGE | ELEMENT | AFFINITY |
---|---|---|---|
Safi’s Hellblade | 891 | 180 Fire | 5% |
Safi’s Aquablade | 891 | 180 Water | 5% |
Safi’s Frostblade | 891 | 180 Ice | 5% |
Safi’s Boltblade | 891 | 180 Lighting | 5% |
Safi’s Drakblade | 891 | 180 Dragon | 5% |
Safi’s Venomblade | 891 | 210 Poison | 5% |
Safi’s Bindblade | 891 | 120 Paralysis | 5% |
Safi’s Dreamblade | 891 | 120 Sleep | 5% |
Safi’s Shatterblade | 891 | 210 Blast | 5% |
The nature of the Longsword is the versatility and how it is played. You don’t have a high number of the Great Sword. Instead, Longsword hunter favors a more elegant playstyle focus on countering using the Spirit Slash Combo.
With that in mind, Longsword also has a pretty fast attack combo – making it viable for an elemental build as well. However, it still cannot beat the Dual Blades on that front, especially with the new elemental focus of Iceborne.
While you can just pick up Radiant Flow and call it a day, with the meta focus on elemental, both Blast and Poison is always better in terms of Raw Damage output. This makes switching between Blast and Poison base on the monster’s weakness is also a great choice.
For Armor, you will still need the Sharpness boost, as usual, to get the most out of your attacks, as Longsword tends to eat away that Sharpness bar in just a couple of Helm Breaker
Teostra Beta Helm + Gloves + Waist.
The North Star of melee hunter, this is for Master Touch. This is currently the comfiest setup as you can get Master Touch as well as Blast Attacks
Next is Yian Garuga Leg for Critical Eye Level 2 and the remaining will be Brute Tigrex for a quick boost to Attack.
This mixed set can easily be used for almost any melee weapons thanks to Master Touch and the utility jewel slots it provided. For Charm, Handicraft Charm Level 4 is picked to maximize the Sharpness boost. You can also switch out for utility charm base on your needs
As for the weapons, before Safi’jiiva, any Blast Longsword is a good pick for this build, as you already have 2 Blast Attack boost in the Teostra set.
As soon as you reach Master Rank 70, hunting the Gold Rathian will be your main priority so you can quickly craft the Wyvern Blade “Luna” and making preparation for Safi’jiiva Siege.
The current best Safi Longsword has been agreed to be the Safi’s Shatter Blade. Using this with 4 Attack Boost Level V and one Sharpness Level VI is enough to carry you till the end of the world.
Another build you can consider is the Rathian for Poison Duration UP – This is especially powerful against Safi’jiiva.
The builds above are taken from reddit meta build for Longsword here
Currently, if you need a comfy starter Longsword in Iceborne, you can pick Radiant Flow right off the bat. As the Safi’jiiva Siege doesn’t come back until March for PC Players, stick to the main weapon tree is enough for now.
When the Siege appears again, make sure to pick up the Wyvern Blade “Luna” and ready to give that Red Dragon some fight!

What’s the armor you used in the Radiant Flow photo?
Hi Alex!
It was Buff Armor – which comes from the event quest where you need to fight two Rajang at once “Muscle Monkey Madness” Despite the awesome look, there are no layered version of this armor 🙁
Just wanted to add on one thing.
The Raging Brachydios armor set and weapon are top tier end-game options for Long Sword users. Agitator 7 skill secret armor set bonus with only 2 armor pieces. The weapon, although it has half the blast element, out-performs the Zorah Magdoros blast long sword in every category. Also the lvl 4 + lvl 3 jewels on a base weapon is amazing for end-game builds. Highly recommended set. Raging Brachydios is worth the torment of the grind. Also the sword looks cool, and looking cool is the half the game for long sword users.
